Fishing at Csendzug Guesthouse – What to Know Before You Arrive

Many guests ask whether they can fish on the Holt-Körös without already having a Hungarian fishing licence. The good news: yes — it’s easy to arrange before arrival.

What permits do you need?

Fishing on natural waters in Hungary (including the Holt-Körös) requires two things:

1️⃣ State fishing licence + catch logbook
If you don’t have a Hungarian licence, the easiest option is the tourist state fishing licence, available via the HORINFO system:

The process is simple:

  • register online
  • complete a short test (learning material provided)
  • pay by card
  • download your licence and catch logbook

The tourist licence is valid for 90 days and is the most practical option for short stays and international visitors.

2️⃣ Local permit for the Holt-Körös
After obtaining the state licence, you also need a local (territorial) permit for the river section (24/48/72-hour or weekly).

As a guide:

  • 24-hour permit: approx. 5,000–6,000 HUF
  • 48-hour permit: approx. 9,000–10,000 HUF
  • 72-hour permit: approx. 13,000–14,000 HUF

👉 In short: both permits are required.

Where to buy permits locally

Buying online is easiest, but permits are also available locally.

In Szarvas:

  • MatchFishing Tackle Shop (Béke köz 6.)
  • Kákafoki Tackle Shop (Kossuth u. 23/3.)

In Békésszentandrás:

  • PECA-SPORT Tackle Shop (Fő u. 26.)
  • Goldfish Tackle Shop (Fő u. 84.)
  • Goda Store (Szentesi út 15.)

Opening hours vary by season, so checking ahead is recommended.

What our fishing guests should know

The Holt-Körös is calm and well stocked, with carp, grass carp and bream most common, plus occasional catfish and pike-perch. Most guests bring their own gear; carp setups with sweetcorn, pellets or boilies generally work best.

If you're coming primarily to fish, Csendzug offers a quiet riverside setting where angling fits naturally into the rhythm of your stay — and for many guests, it becomes the highlight. 🎣
